EP Release Rival Karma - A.Y.N.

Go” is the name of the first single release of the debut EP “A.Y.N” by “Rival Karma”.

A.Y.N. stands for “Are You Ninja”. The title could not have been better chosen for the “fathers of Ninja Rocks”, a style mix in Rock’n Roll, which is located between Stonerrock, Blues and Grunge. The EP includes a total of four elaborately produced tracks, all of which were recorded and produced by Martin William Ross (vocals, guitar) and Piergiorgio Ciarla aka PJ (drums, vocals). The very accentuated precise playing of guitar and drums, as well as the sonorous voice with high recognition value, harmonize well over all songs. This high-quality plate combines a variety of moods.

With “Go“, the first track you get the feeling that this track was written for festivals. It is perfect not only as an EP opener, but also for every live stage. It immediately draws you into his rhythmic spell and you realize how not only the foot begins to rock to the beat, but the whole body wants to maneuver itself towards a dance floor to perform the rusty dance moves there. With “Go” there is also directly a small tribute to their formative time in France. A female computer voice counts the song in French – a nice interpretation of the classic timing. “Go” is peppered with many small, but very targeted sound fragments. You will not only hear harmonic guitar effects like flanger, chorus and reverb, which support an almost synthetic guitar crunch, also the playing with reverb and EQ fit perfectly on the vocals and thus complete the soundscapes. The entertaining 3:17 mins are rounded off with the initially established computer voice, which bids us farewell with “À bientôt” (See you soon!), before moving on to the next track without a long break.

Matching the song´s name, “Apocalypse Boogie” opens darker. Wind sweeps through the country, a Zippo® click and a short pull on the dump epochally lead this 3:28 min trip, that sometimes reminds us of the great combo “Muse”. With this song they are in no way inferior to this great band of musical sophistication. Driving beat, cheeky vocals, here and there a few supportive sound effects and guitar riffs, which carry through the song and provide shrill slides again and again for artistic accents.

With “Chemical Courage” you immediately feel transported to one of these typical American movie bars. The song goes very well with a tracking shot past dark figures playing billiards, a grim looking bearded rocker sipping his drink at the bar, surrounded by thick smoke and a few guys chatting to tattooed hot brides. And in the background, raised on stage: “Rival Karma” performing this song. Fits like eye to eye! Blues and Southern Rock elements paired with filthy guitar sounds and a distorted voice make the song very atmospheric and increase with each new section. From elongated single notes to the Grande Finale, which consists of a firework of several guitar tracks and drums.

Song No 4: “Wasting time” could be described as the good mood number of the record, which leads with the clap elements, a clear voice and a more subtle guitar in the first stanza through the 4 min. Equipped with a progressive intermediate section and a break that can´t be better placed, this song ends EP worthy – fulminant.

“Is this the end of the world or is it just the beginning?” asks Martin in “Apocalypse Boogie”. For us to answer clearly: The Beginning!! If this record doesn´t strike like a hand grenade, we’ll eat drumsticks! Here we have a whopping 5 out of 5 “hand grenuts” and are very proud to be one of the first platforms to write about this little masterpiece. Where and when you can see the band in Germany is not clear at this time, but we know for sure: You will read about it here on “IndieNuts” right away, because we are fans of the first hour 🙂
